Positive: The centrality of the villa was helpful as I got to fully immerse myself in discovering old town. Malik was such an amazing host, always readily available to help with any requests, and his attention to detail is commendable. I was celebrating my birthday, and Malik & Steve made me feel extra special! As it was low season, I had the whole villa to myself, and this was the cherry on top. Would defs go back!!

Positive: If you want an authentic experience in Lamu, stay here. Host Malik is excellent and responsive and very caring. He arranged all of our excursions with reliable informative guides and boats. We were prepared for mosquitoes but we really didn't have much issue with mosquitoes. Very affordable. The markets and shops in from the beach front are wonderful and Malik was perfectly willing to take us around which made us feel much more comfortable.
Negative: Morning islamic prayers at 5 AM were a bit surprising but you get used to it and they last 15-20 minutes and then you just fall back asleep. It definitely added to the authenticity and we preferred this place then staying a a sterile resort down the beach in Shela. If you are looking for beach access outside your front door this is not the place for you.
Summary: Highly recommend as long as you want an authentic experience.

Positive: The location is good, not too far from the port. Malik, the house-keeper met us at the Port. Malik offered to arrange a guide for a small service fees.
Negative: We booked 3 separate ensuites (5 people) for 2 nights, but 2 have only cold water for shower for the first night. Malik, the house-keeper finally agreed to allow us to use the shower on another floor the second night. The house has long narrow staircase. If you have assigned to the top floor, prepare to walk to 61 steps. The steps are very high and no landing areas, it is very difficult for elderly and children. The breakfast is full of deep fried cakes on the first day, Malik agreed to get us 2 boiled eggs each and some toasts next day. Each person also has a plate of fresh fruit, we enjoy that. A lot of mosquitos inside the house. The bath towels were very smelly, there were shampoo or shower gel, you should bring your own. If you like to use the fridge or kitchen, it is better to tell Malik ahead of time. The hygiene level is not good. Each ensuite has a ceiling fan, with 27 degree C with high humidity at night, there was no air-conditioning. The town centre was full of donkey shit, very smelly, the local residents use the donkey for transportation of food, luggages etc. We should stay at Shela or Manda Island, not Lamu. Lastly, the neighbors have no consideration, they shouted and talked all night.
Summary: Location is good, but living condition is very bad.

Positive: We had a good stay at this lovely Swahili-style house, which is hidden away in the back streets of Lamu old town, with great views over the rooftops to the sea. It's nicely furnished and decorated, with airy and bright open living areas. A good place for one or two nights, if you want to be based in the old town, and a very good price. Swahili-style breakfast, with samosas, sweet pastries, and fresh fruit. Malik is friendly and helpful.
Negative: It really is hidden away in the narrow, run-down back streets of Lamu. Some will like that, others less so. Although only recently done up, it already feels a little tired around the edges and a little dusty in the open living areas. But for the price you pay, this place is a good choice.
Summary: Staying in the heart of Lamu's run-down old town

Positive: A traditional Lamu building in the historic centre of Lamu with some interesting features, like the open plan roof top room and plunge pool on the ground floor. The building has been well refurbished and well maintained. We upgraded to the Apartment on the third floor for extra space and privacy. The host Malik is very friendly and respectful and assisted us organise a couple of activities with experienced guides. The house is in a good safe location, calm and close to the main areas of activity. A very different experience from our stay in Shela and we would recommend it to other visitors.
Negative: No fresh ground coffee making facilities for that essential morning kick, Kenya is noted for its coffee production would have been interested in buying product to take home. That said the owners are just starting out and I bet thing will get more experienced focussed
Summary: Great location for the Lamu town experience

Positive: The location was easy to find and we felt safe moving around in the area after dark. The Queen Deluxe room was great. The staff was caring and attentive. The room was clean. The “balcony” or the open room near bedroom was beautiful, cozy and pleasant to spend time at. There were mosquito nets on the bed. It is obvious that lots of love and effort has been put into restoration of the building.
Negative: We dreamt of A/C 😁 (But we understand that A/C does not fit the local architecture ☺️)
Summary: Wonderful place, done with care
